SURGICAL TREATMENTS FOR ED

Surgical intervention for the treatment of erectile dysfunction is one of the oldest treatments in modern medicine. Significant improvements have been made both in the techniques and in the available devices used for implantation. There are two types of surgical intervention:
1.         penile prosthetic surgery
2.         vascular surgery.

Surgical treatment for erectile dysfunction may be appropriate in the following circumstances:
•          insufficient response to injection therapy, oral therapy, or any other available treatments
•          patient preference for a permanent aid in place rather than having to use injections or oral therapy for the rest of his life
•          surgically repairable conditions like Peyronie's disease, which causes bending of the penis and obstruction of blood flow
•          significant venous leakage in the penis of a young man
•          a recognised arterial obstruction that can be removed or bypassed.
